I’d never worked with a personal trainer before, and was really quite terrified of the body analysis appointment.  I was in terrible physical condition and contending with some medical problems that I thought would prevent Shannan from taking me on as a client.  To my surprise and pleasure, Shannan put me at ease as soon as I met her.  She’s taught me to be proud of each accomplishment, no matter how tiny I think it is.  Shannan took the time to find out what I like to do and incorporates those types of exercises into our workouts.  Her familiarity with my medical condition keeps me safe during our workouts and Shannan has shown me that exercising can be fun.  ----Lorrian Maass
I have been training with Shannan for just over a year. Since this is my first experience with a trainer, or in a gym for that matter, I am pleased that Shannan started my training at a pace I could handle and has gradually increased the intensity as I have gained strength. She clearly explains the exercises and what they are for. I have gone from a waist size of 42” to 34” and have more energy and stamina than ever before. I have had the pleasure of having Shannan King as a personal trainer for almost 7 months and she is excellent.  Not only is she knowledgeable in exercise programs and cardio workouts, but also in the physical body.  I have two bad knees and have not been able to exercise for several years and was therefore extremely overweight.  Last January, I decided that I was going to have to do something so I started Weight Watchers and a co-worker introduced me to Shannan.  She worked with me each session, all the while making sure that I did not injure my knees or back.  In those 7 months, she took me from a slow moving, uncoordinated exercise ‘nerd’, to a firmer, tighter, happier person.  I lost 52 lbs and was able to take a 14-day trip to Germany, walking through a town a day.  I would have never done it without her.  I have had experience with 3 other trainers and they do not hold a candle to this gal.  I recommend her to anyone. --Debbie Lytle
When I met Shannan ten months ago, I was a middle-aged mess headed for an early grave. Already fat and out of shape from years of overwork and self-neglect, a car accident a year earlier had left me depressed, weak, seriously overweight and in disabling back pain despite aggressive medical and chiropractic treatment. Hoping to do something about my problems, I decided to start exercising, but I knew I needed expert help. Thank you Shannan for helping me enjoy my vacation in Peru. My initial goal was to become fit enough to participate in the hikes and sightseeing in Peru at 8,000 foot elevation.

During the last year, my fitness level and upper body strength has improved. Now I can stay on the elliptical for 25 minutes with a 6 incline and 6 resistance. I can lift weights with correct form and have increased my weights and reps. My body fat percentage has decreased by 3 percent and my body has a completely different shape!

In contrast to other trainers I have had who have a “one size fits all” training program, Shannan individualized my program to meet my goals. When I first started I was receiving physical therapy for my ;left shoulder and right knee. Shannan adjusted exercises as required to make sure I had no unnecessary pain. I like the fact that instead of using the machines to exercise isolated muscle groups, she uses exercises with free weights to challenge the whole body.

Shannan is tough and also warm, positive, encouraging and supportive. It is a real pleasure working with her. I look forward to working with Shannan to maintain and improve my fitness level, decrease body fat and have a lot of fun in the process!

Right now I feel better than I have in years. The turning point was when I went to take my daughter to college in upstate New York and I couldn’t make it up the stairs to her room after having to hike uphill to the dorm. I was so embarrassed and depressed, partially because it affected others as much as it affected me. I decided that the next time I go to see my daughter, we will be able to visit without this standing in the way. I’m tired of people worrying about me, and I’m tired of worrying about myself.

The next week several friends were going to join the gym and talked me into going with them. I knew that if I joined a club, I would be faithful especially if I had a trainer. This trainer is Shannan, and she has become a friend and has helped me incredibly in my efforts to get healthy. I’m down 22 pounds right now, and I’ve got a long way to go, but I can plainly see that it is possible, where before I simply despaired of my situation. I still cannot look at the scale or at my measurements, but I am coming closer to the time that I will be able to. Shannan encouraged me to join a nutrition program, and it has made losing weight much easier.

At one time in my life, before my children, I was a very small person, and I need to remember that person and find her again. The positive feedback and gentle push I get from Shannan in my visits has made working out easier as time goes by. I never would have expected that I could do forty minutes of cardio, or that I could wear clothes I hadn’t worn in several years.

In all my previous lives I have been the “Poster Child” for “I hate exercise”. My husband used to say, “When Natalye gets the urge to exercise, she lies down until it goes away”. No more! I really have been considering having my picture taken so others-and I-will believe it’s really me lifting those dumbbells.

This would have never happened if not for Shannan. I have been working out for nine months now! While I have exercised on and off, very inconsistently over a number of years, and have hated every minute of it, I have never lifted weights nor done any resistance exercise. Ever. Nada. Never.

I have been very thin in my life, moderately heavy, and downright fat at various times. It was always about losing weight and dieting. About a year ago, after coming out of recovery from surgery due to lung cancer, I decided that I had to make a lifestyle change: healthy eating, exercise, and weight training. It all went together without a time line, because this was for the rest of my life. This was very different for me because it was not about a diet. I joined a gym and signed up for a personal trainer. My Fairy Godmother came in the form of Shannan. What an assignment she had: an overweight, out of shape, “mature” woman with no history of doing anything physical with any consistency, ever. I could barely lift two to three pounds – a can of beans!

Shannan took me under her wing and held my hand all the way-with kindness, humor and lots of encouragement. Regardless of how I did, I have always felt successful with her. She zeroed in on my goals and we became a team. Shannan has made working out fun, something I never thought I would say. That was for others. She has taught me many ways to keep in shape and to work various muscle groups. She has seen me through weight plateaus, offered nutritional guidance, and tells me how proud she is of me. She has never pushed me too far or too fast, but has always challenged me, encouraged me and surely has motivated me. Shannan is a fine professional and I would recommend her-and have already done so-to anyone.

As of today, I have lost 65 pounds! I could never have done it without Shannan. I still want to lose about five more pounds, but want some definition and leanness. I think buff is sexy, and Shannan has kicked up my workouts to challenge me and my body! I no longer feel intimidated in a gym-anywhere-and work out without Shannan on my own several additional times a week and always when I travel. When my husband and I travel we work out together. That’s a first!

I truly have made a lifestyle change and get many, many compliments from friends and family about how good I look. I feel a great sense of wellbeing and have lots of energy with spring in my step. Most importantly, my husband loves my “bod”! That’s pretty good for a grandmother with six grandchildren! I will always be grateful to Shannan.
